R.I.P. Sir Christopher Lee

christopher lee

Sir Christopher Lee.

What a life.

Special Forces in WWII.

Knighted.

Dracula.

The Man With the Golden Gun.

Saruman.

Jedi.

Heavy Metal singer.

He was a Tolkien scholar, and the only person involved with the Lord of the Rings film who had actually met J.R.R. Tolkien.

He spoke several languages, including the fictional ones created by Tolkien.

He was a serious man, and a serious actor, but not too serious to host Saturday Night Live, or show up in Spielberg’s WWII comedy 1942, or even Police Academy: Mission to Moscow. He was offered the Leslie Nielsen role in Airplane!, but turned it down. He later called it a mistake and said it would have been fun.

My grandparents watched him in the Hammer horror films, and my kids watch him in Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Hugo, and Alice in Wonderland.

His filmography lists over 200 films, many TV appearances, and even a dozen voice roles in video games.

He celebrated his 92nd birthday by releasing the heavy metal album, his third, and holds the distinction of being the oldest living performer to enter the music charts.

A great man. Husband of 53 years, father, actor, singer, spy……

RIP Sir Christopher Lee….

Han shot first, says original script found in Canadian library.

It turns out the answer to a question that has puzzled “Star Wars” fans for decades was hidden in a Canadian library.

According to CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation), while trying to digitize the University of New Brunswick Library’s science fiction collection, librarian Kristian Brown stumbled upon an early draft of the “Star Wars” script.

The script, which is marked as a “fourth draft,” is dated March 15, 1976, well ahead of the film’s eventual 1977 release.

The most striking revelation centers around one of the most famous scenes in the film.

Director Josh Trank explains his departure from Star Wars Anthology

In the midst of the recent Star Wars Celebration con, one notable absence was director Josh Trank (Chronicle, the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot), who was slated to direct the follow-up Anthology film.

Not long after it was announced he had left the film for unknown reasons. Rumors swirled about drug use, being difficult to work with, problems with his Fantastic Four production, etc. Now Trank is setting the record straight on why he didn’t want Star Wars in his future.

Ewan McGregor may return as Obi-Wan in stand-alone Star Wars: Anthology films!

File it under rumor, for sure, but it appears to be a distinct possibility.

Word on the Star Wars front is that following the first Anthology picture Rogue One, we may see a young Han Solo vs. young Boba Fett flick as the second stand-alone film. Now the rumor is flying that McGregor, who’s always seemed to me to be a Star Wars fan himself yet with a bit of a grudge over the reception of the preuels, will revisit Obi-Wan Kenobi while he watches over young Luke between Episodes III and IV. There’s even talk of a trilogy of Obi-Wan films. I’d say with Disney’s apparent enthusiasm for their shiny new Star Wars toy and their ever present enthusiasm for amassing huge piles of your cash, this will definitely be in the works in some form.

We may even see the return of Darth Maul, hopefully in the form of Ray Park returning to the role. Long story short: Maul survived being sliced in half by Obi-Wan and resurfaced on The Clone Wars animated series, which Disney considers official canon. So HE IS OUT THERE in the movie universe somewhere looking to get payback on the crazy old wizard.
